Nothing says summer quite like packing your bags and hitting the road for a Pacific Northwest adventure with loved ones. Road trips offer a unique opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime and only require the right ride, a great destination, and a cool place to stay.

If you’ve been longing for some road time with your partner, family, or closest friends, you’re in luck. We’ve done the hard part and put together all of the details (including finding the right wheels and where to get your game on) for four unique getaways. Now, all you need to do is call your copilots, pack your bags, and enjoy the drive.

1. Family Road Trip to Pendleton

Pendleton is the perfect road trip for a family looking for an outdoor, ranch-style vacation or a taste of the Old West.

The Ride

Gone are the days of the mini-van snub, and the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is a perfect example of why. This vehicle is designed to seat seven. It’s so spacious that the kids won’t have a reason to pick and nag at each other, and if they do start to get snarky, mom can simply turn on the entertainment. The Uconnect Theater features a duel-screen entertainment system that has built-in games and apps or each family member can sync up their own devices for an individualized experience. The Pendleton Round-Up is exciting for the whole family. Once a year, every September, family members young and old have an opportunity to experience a traditional rodeo with bucking broncos, barrel racing, bull riding and more! It’s the perfect excuse to plan a family vacation.

If your road trip is scheduled before or after the rodeo is due in town, don’t despair. Your family can still enjoy an Old West experience when you sign up for a Pendleton Underground Tour. Learn all about the town’s history including the Chinese in Eastern Oregon and their role in building the west. The tour is designed to captivate and entertain both young and old.

The Red Lion is an all-in-one hotel with a restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After a long day exploring the outdoors, playing at the park and out on the court, your clan will be eager to cool off in the swimming pool before sinking into their pillow top beds. The Ride

Before you break out your rackets, you and your partner can enjoy a leisurely hike along a scenic trail that takes you through a veggie patch up to an overlook where you will find a sundial designed for marking the equinox and solstice. There are beautiful stone and earthworks aligned for sunset on the winter and summer solstices as well as the equinoxes, but it is a romantic spot to watch the sunset anytime of the year.

If you are worried about getting on a court, one of the major perks this space offers is the ability to reserve your playtime in advance. Reservations can be made ahead of time over the phone by calling (206) 684-4764 or in person. In between games you can rest on nearby benches while enjoying views of the Sound and the Olympics. Or, bring a picnic lunch and steal a romantic moment together.

Make your way to Seattle Center and the International Fountain where you will witness a giant dome spraying water into the air in blasts set to music. It’s a great place to relax on a blanket in the sun, grab a bite or drink, or get wet and a little wild running between the sprays.

For a sweet evening out, kick off your active gear and get dressed up. The 5th Avenue Theater hosts some of the biggest and best live theater shows to hit the stage. Purchasing tickets ahead of time is advised.

Where to Stay

Located in Downtown Seattle just off of I5, the Crown Plaza Seattle Downtown hotel is a great option if you are looking for a legitimate Seattle experience. Only a seven-minute walk from the Seattle Art Museum and a 1.3 miles from the Space Needle, you can spend a good part of a day seeing sites on foot.

The rooms are comfortable, but sophisticated with breathtaking views of the Seattle skyline. You will love sinking into their Plush Sleep Advantage beds and curling up together to for an end of night movie. For onsite bites, check out Regatta Bar & Grille where you can nosh on pizza and burgers, and grab a happy hour cocktail or two.

3. Girls Getaway to Medford + Ashland

From wine tasting to tennis, a roadtrip to the Ashland and Medford area has everything the ladies need to let down their hair and have a bit of fun.

Located in Medford, Bear Creek Park is home to four tennis courts. Chances are, you and the ladies will be able to get on the court fast. There is an outdoor performing amphitheater, a covered pavilion and several barbecue areas if eating on site before an evening out appeals. The park is also next to Bear Creek Greenway, a paved biking path and walkway.

Ashland is home to a variety of wineries that offer tastings. Check out the Weisinger Family Winery at 3150 Siskiyou Blvd. in Ashland, or visit the Southern Oregon Winery Association online and check out the winery list and map to find your ideal wine tasting experience.

Another option is to book a tour with Wine Hopper Tours (leaves from both Medford and Ashland). They provide guided wine tastings that include tastings, appetizers, lunch, and dessert along with a sober driver.

Where to Stay

Located in Downtown Ashland, the Ashland Springs Hotel offers a boutique experience for travelers who are looking for a unique stay. A downtown landmark, the hotel was built in 1925 and restored to preserve the small European hotel feel. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. Where to Stay

The Davenport Grand, Autograph offers visitors modern rooms and suites designed for comfort and relaxation. The pillow top beds guarantee a good night of sleep after a day on the court and rafting down the river, and the 55-inch flat-panel TV means you can catch a game or a show before drifting off. Waiver of Responsibility Medical Release

I hereby consent to emergency medical and/or hospital service that may be rendered by or at accredited hospitals, by appointed physicians, in the event such need arises in the opinion of the duly licensed physician.

Waiver and Indemnity Agreement

Acceptance of my entry in these events is without responsibility of any kind by the USTA/Pacific Northwest Section (USTA/PNW) and any other entity sponsoring the event. I do hereby for and on behalf of myself and my heirs and legal representatives RELEASE and forever discharge the USTA/PNW, its officers and representatives, from any and all claims, demands, and injuries, howsoever arising, whether caused by the negligent or intentional acts of the USTA/PNW and its representatives, representatives of other sponsoring entities, or by third parties, which injuries may be in any way related to my activities during the tournament and any period traveling to or from the events described, and all such claims are hereby WAIVED AND RELEASED, and I covenant not to sue therefore. The parent or guardian by signing below, does hereby agree to INDEMNIFY and hold harmless the USTA/PNW Section and its representatives and the sponsoring entity from any liability which they may incur to the entrant, howsoever arising and whether caused by the negligent or intentional acts of the USTA/PNW, its representatives, or the sponsoring body. I also give USTA/PNW permission to create a USTA account for myself and everyone in my party who is participating in the event.

Publicity Release

I agree to be filmed and photographed by The United States Tennis Association (“USTA”) in connection with such participation and that the USTA will own any and all rights in such film and photography of me (hereinafter referred to as “Footage”). This will permit the USTA to proceed with taking such Footage and I now waive, as to the USTA and its successors, assigns and licensees, all personal right and objections to any use to be made of me, my name, likeness, voice or personality in connection with the use of the Footage in any media for any and all purposes, including trade, advertising and promotional purposes, in perpetuity and without further compensation. I understand that in proceeding with filming and photography of the Footage, the USTA will do so in full reliance on the foregoing permission.

COVID-19 Waiver

By checking the box below you agree that you can currently answer no to the following questions: 1. In the last 14 days, have you experienced COVID-19 symptoms? Symptoms include: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, or at least two of these symptoms: (a) fever of 100.4 or over; (b) chills: (c) repeated shaking with chills; (d) muscle pain; (e) headaches; (f) sore throat; and (g) new loss of taste or smell? 2. In the last 14 days, have you tested positive for COVID-19? If you’ve tested positive, but subsequently tested negative for COVID-19 twice in a row, 24 hours apart, have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms have resolved, then you can answer “no” 3. Have you been exposed to any individual who has symptoms of or has tested positive for COVID-19 and/or traveled to any known hot-spots for COVID-19? Exposure means a household member, intimate partner, or other individuals in prolonged close contact (within 6 feet for more than 10 consecutive minutes).

Additional Waiver of Claims

Players, participants, and any spectators or individuals that are participating in USTA and USTA PNW tournaments, programs, activities or events, acknowledge the risks associated with tennis, accept those risks voluntarily, and in consideration of their acceptance in the USTA and USTA PNW tournaments, programs, activities or events, assume all loss or damage, and any claim or demand therefore on account of injury and/or exposure to infectious syndromes or diseases to the person or property or resulting in illness and/or death arising out of or related to their participation, whether caused by negligence or otherwise. By participating or attending a tournament, program, activity or event, the players, participants, and any spectators assume all risks whether known or unknown. Furthermore, players, participants, and spectators agree to hold harmless the USTA, USTA PNW, and the host facility, their officials, (Released Parties) and the Released Parties employees and agents with respect to any injury or loss caused by negligence or otherwise to the fullest extent permitted by law.

I have read and understand the foregoing releases and indemnity agreement I am aware that this is a release of liability and a contract and I sign it of my own free will.
