Summer is also known as the road trip season. There are few adventures that allow families the quality time and the cool experiences it takes to create epic memories that last a lifetime while strengthening existing bonds. Road trips do just that! If you are looking for the perfect family getaway, here are some perfect locations for families looking for cool destinations to explore during the hot summer months.

Fairbanks, AK

The unparalleled beauty of Alaska draws vacationers from all over the world. The drive to Fairbanks alone is guaranteed to be beautiful regardless of where you are coming from. Once you have arrived, your itinerary should include the following stops:

  • Pioneer Park: This 44-acre city park celebrates and shares the area’s history with multiple museums and historical displays. While there, check out the Pioneer Air Museum, the Native Museum and the Tanana Valley Railroad. The park is also home to a carousel, playgrounds, the Crooked Creek & Whiskey Island Railroad and plenty of shopping and dining options.
  • Fairbanks Ice Museum: Your kids are sure to be equally impressed by this museum’s ice sculptures and the nightly aurora shows. Imagine slides, houses, mazes and playgrounds all made of ice! It’s a perfect way to stay cool, even on one of the area’s warmest days.
  • Georgeson Botanical Garden: Located on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, this five-acre garden area will please all of the flower and plant enthusiasts in your family. It’s a perfect location for a low-key picnic and it’s only $5 for admission.

Manson, WA

If Manson isn’t on your radar, it’s time to add it to your bucket list of places to visit in the PNW. Located on the shores of Lake Chelan, this gateway community gives visitors access to the lake’s stunning views and water-related activities. Bring your boat for an afternoon of fun on the water, or spend the day wine tasting and enjoying scenic views.

There are an array of wineries throughout the downtown and surrounding areas to explore, but before you partake in an afternoon of wine tasting, make sure to drive the Manson Scenic Loop which takes you through stunning apple orchards and beautiful vineyards while offering up spectacular views of the Lake. End your day strolling through the downtown area where you will find plenty of shops and restaurants to peruse.

Mt. Vernon, WA

Located at in the center of Skagit County, halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, BC, Mt. Vernon provides visitors with over 50 trails to explore. Wander through city parks or climb your way up to spectacular mountain views. There’s something for every skill and ability level. Along with hiking trails, the area has wonderful biking options as well. Little Mountain Trails offers nine miles of family-friendly paths, and the Cascade Trail will take you on a 22.5-mile adventure.

Beyond hiking and biking, with the Skagit Wild and Scenic River System nearby, the Mt. Vernon area is perfect for families who want to boat, fish and camp as well.

Coeur d’Alene, ID

If outdoor recreation is your family’s passion, then Coeur d’Alene is the perfect road trip regardless of where you are located in the Pacific Northwest. Imagine a trip packed with white water rafting, golfing, boating, biking and camping. All of the best outdoor adventures are at your fingertips here. You can even add a little adrenaline to your visit with a trip to Silverwood: the Northwest’s largest theme park!

If you enjoy the outdoors but prefer to spend your nights indoors, the downtown area has over 100 shops and restaurants for you to explore.

Woodburn, OR

Best known for its fantastic festivals, Woodburn is just a short drive from the greater Portland area. If you are looking for an afternoon filled with touring vineyards, gardens, and farms, this is the place for you. During the spring, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival is a huge attraction that draws families and photographers from across the state. During the summer months, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm holds wine tastings and wagon rides for the 21 and older crowd.

Bauman’s Farm & Garden is a must-visit when you are in the area. Along with a bakery, produce and garden center, they also have a petting zoo and kid’s play area for young ones to enjoy.

For an experience your crew is sure to remember for years to come, schedule a hot air balloon ride over the area with Woodburn Balloons rides. There’s nothing quite like catching a glimpse of the area’s stunning landscape from 1,500 feet up in the sky.

Waiver of Responsibility Medical Release

I hereby consent to emergency medical and/or hospital service that may be rendered by or at accredited hospitals, by appointed physicians, in the event such need arises in the opinion of the duly licensed physician.

Waiver and Indemnity Agreement

Acceptance of my entry in these events is without responsibility of any kind by the USTA/Pacific Northwest Section (USTA/PNW) and any other entity sponsoring the event. I do hereby for and on behalf of myself and my heirs and legal representatives RELEASE and forever discharge the USTA/PNW, its officers and representatives, from any and all claims, demands, and injuries, howsoever arising, whether caused by the negligent or intentional acts of the USTA/PNW and its representatives, representatives of other sponsoring entities, or by third parties, which injuries may be in any way related to my activities during the tournament and any period traveling to or from the events described, and all such claims are hereby WAIVED AND RELEASED, and I covenant not to sue therefore. The parent or guardian by signing below, does hereby agree to INDEMNIFY and hold harmless the USTA/PNW Section and its representatives and the sponsoring entity from any liability which they may incur to the entrant, howsoever arising and whether caused by the negligent or intentional acts of the USTA/PNW, its representatives, or the sponsoring body. I also give USTA/PNW permission to create a USTA account for myself and everyone in my party who is participating in the event.

Publicity Release

I agree to be filmed and photographed by The United States Tennis Association (“USTA”) in connection with such participation and that the USTA will own any and all rights in such film and photography of me (hereinafter referred to as “Footage”). This will permit the USTA to proceed with taking such Footage and I now waive, as to the USTA and its successors, assigns and licensees, all personal right and objections to any use to be made of me, my name, likeness, voice or personality in connection with the use of the Footage in any media for any and all purposes, including trade, advertising and promotional purposes, in perpetuity and without further compensation. I understand that in proceeding with filming and photography of the Footage, the USTA will do so in full reliance on the foregoing permission.

COVID-19 Waiver

By checking the box below you agree that you can currently answer no to the following questions: 1. In the last 14 days, have you experienced COVID-19 symptoms? Symptoms include: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, or at least two of these symptoms: (a) fever of 100.4 or over; (b) chills: (c) repeated shaking with chills; (d) muscle pain; (e) headaches; (f) sore throat; and (g) new loss of taste or smell? 2. In the last 14 days, have you tested positive for COVID-19? If you’ve tested positive, but subsequently tested negative for COVID-19 twice in a row, 24 hours apart, have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms have resolved, then you can answer “no” 3. Have you been exposed to any individual who has symptoms of or has tested positive for COVID-19 and/or traveled to any known hot-spots for COVID-19? Exposure means a household member, intimate partner, or other individuals in prolonged close contact (within 6 feet for more than 10 consecutive minutes).

Additional Waiver of Claims

Players, participants, and any spectators or individuals that are participating in USTA and USTA PNW tournaments, programs, activities or events, acknowledge the risks associated with tennis, accept those risks voluntarily, and in consideration of their acceptance in the USTA and USTA PNW tournaments, programs, activities or events, assume all loss or damage, and any claim or demand therefore on account of injury and/or exposure to infectious syndromes or diseases to the person or property or resulting in illness and/or death arising out of or related to their participation, whether caused by negligence or otherwise. By participating or attending a tournament, program, activity or event, the players, participants, and any spectators assume all risks whether known or unknown. Furthermore, players, participants, and spectators agree to hold harmless the USTA, USTA PNW, and the host facility, their officials, (Released Parties) and the Released Parties employees and agents with respect to any injury or loss caused by negligence or otherwise to the fullest extent permitted by law.

I have read and understand the foregoing releases and indemnity agreement I am aware that this is a release of liability and a contract and I sign it of my own free will.
